If you've purchased an infrared cabin, you naturally want to enjoy it and reap its health benefits.

But how often can you use an infrared cabin? And do more sessions in the infrared cabin actually bring more health benefits?

There are clear answers to these questions.

Should you use an infrared cabin daily or weekly?

To feel a health effect, it is recommended to have at least one session in the infrared cabin per week. A visit to an infrared cabin can become a pleasant weekend ritual or even a weekly event with friends or family, depending on the size of your infrared cabin. Additionally, the infrared cabin can be used for specific purposes, such as combating colds or reducing muscle soreness.

How long does an infrared cabin session last? Typically, you stay in the heat cabin for 20 to 45 minutes, depending on your fitness and heat tolerance. Please remember that everyone is unique, and so are your heat tolerance and ideal session duration. So, if you ever don't feel up to using the infrared cabin, please take a break and follow your intuition.

More than one session is neither necessary nor recommended, unlike with a traditional sauna.

Incidentally, regular use is also beneficial because an infrared cabin does not need to be heated for long. As a rough guide, 15-25 minutes of preheating time is sufficient, depending on the ambient temperature and your preference. So, frequent use of the infrared cabin does not require extensive planning. The effort of an infrared cabin session is therefore minimal.

Can you use an infrared cabin daily?

You can certainly use the infrared cabin daily to get the maximum health benefits. The infrared cabin can easily become part of your daily ritual.

However, you should only have one session per day. While it is theoretically possible to go more often, it does not bring any special health benefits and can be exhausting due to the stimulation of your body.

Can you use an infrared cabin in every season?

In winter, when it's really cold outside, we long for warmth. It's clear that infrared cabins are used more often during this season.

In principle, however, you can also use your infrared cabin in summer. You should even do so, because many of the health effects are independent of the season.

Increased recovery during sports, positive stimulation for the cardiovascular system, and activation of heat shock proteins are just a few of the health effects that are also desirable in summer.

Of course, in summer, one has less of a desire to go to a sauna. The body and water balance are also conditioned differently due to the changed environmental conditions, but the health benefits are also valid in summer. We therefore clearly advocate for regular sauna use in summer, because your health will thank you for it.

It depends on the heat cabin and the infrared emitters

How do you know if daily use of the infrared cabin makes sense? First, there is nothing against daily use, and more frequent use naturally leads to a more intensive effect.

However, the recommendation for how often an infrared sauna should be used also depends on the model of your infrared cabin. This is because they are equipped with different infrared emitters, which are more or less intense.

It is important to know that there are three types of infrared waves: Near infrared, mid-infrared light, and far infrared. Depending on the wavelength, these penetrate the skin to different depths and have different effects on health.

Which infrared light is used in your infrared cabin depends on the infrared emitters. There are ceramic emitters (also known as ceramic emitters or spot emitters), panel emitters (these usually work with far infrared waves; our TrueWave II are the only emitters worldwide to combine both carbon and ceramic materials, allowing us to produce both far infrared and mid-infrared in a single panel emitter), and full-spectrum emitters for infrared cabins. Full-spectrum cabins use the entire range of the available infrared spectrum.

Depending on the wavelength, number, and intensity of the emitters in your cabin, longer or shorter sessions, as well as weekly or daily use, may be appropriate. It is best to ask your manufacturer directly, who should be able to advise you competently on this topic. Similarly, the effectiveness also depends on whether you go into the infrared cabin with clothes or not.

In principle, however, a far and mid-infrared cabin is primarily recommended, as it brings your body to temperature evenly and gently and its emitters do not cause too much electrosmog. We then supplement this product with full spectrum to ensure you get all the health benefits of an infrared cabin.

If you are still unsure which infrared emitter and which cabin are right for you, our guide to buying your infrared cabin can certainly help you further.

Possible health damage from excessive use of an infrared sauna

Are there any unwanted side effects from too frequent use of an infrared cabin? In short: not really, as long as you listen to your body and common sense.

Infrared cabins reach gentle temperatures of 35-60 °C. Of course, you shouldn't sit in a room at 60 °C for hours, but your body will tell you soon enough. While you relax and recover in the sauna, your metabolism is stimulated or put under "stress". This is often referred to as positive stress or "heat stress", which is quite strenuous for the body, but it generally trains the body.

Despite the lower temperature, you sweat more in infrared cabins than in a traditional sauna, which is one reason for the special health benefits of infrared light therapy. Therefore, as with any other heat treatment, it is important to ensure adequate fluid intake.

When should you no longer stay in the infrared cabin? If you are ever unsure whether you have become too hot in the infrared cabin, you can do this test: Place your hand on your forehead (ideally, someone else will do this for you). Your forehead should be pleasantly warm, not hot. If you feel dizzy or unwell, take it seriously and leave the infrared cabin.

Is infrared light safe?

IR radiation is a completely natural radiation, just like that produced by the sun (only without the harmful side effects of UV light).

You feel infrared heat in everyday life when you take a walk in the sun. This pleasant warmth is generated by infrared light.

Infrared light is therefore something completely natural and safe. In hospitals, even newborns are treated with it.

Conclusion

When using an IR cabin, you should always pay attention to how your body feels and what is good for you.

There is nothing to prevent daily use, and it maximizes the health benefits of your infrared cabin. But even with a weekly visit to an infrared cabin, you can already benefit from the healing effects of infrared light.
