As a leading wellness company, your well-being and safety are our top priorities. Our True Wave® far infrared and full spectrum infrared heaters are the most effective and safest infrared heaters on the market. Clearlight Infrared Saunas are the only infrared saunas on the market with virtually no EMF and ELF exposure. Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) are waves of energy with frequencies below 300 Hertz or cycles per second. Extremely Low Frequencies (ELF) are electric fields with frequencies of 3 to 30 Hertz.

All Clearlight® infrared saunas offer the lowest and safest EMF and ELF levels of any infrared sauna on the market, without exception. The EMF levels in your Clearlight® infrared sauna are mostly below 1 mG when measured directly at the heaters. Where you sit in the sauna, the EMF levels are practically 0 mG.

The ELF levels in your Clearlight® infrared sauna are 3 to 5 times below the limit. All of our competitors are more than 20 times above the limit. When buying an infrared sauna, be sure to ask if the infrared sauna is both low EMF and low ELF.

What do EMF and ELF mean?

Electromagnetic fields (EMF) are waves of energy with frequencies below 300 Hertz or cycles per second. The electromagnetic fields we encounter daily come from everyday things like power lines, radar and microwave towers, television and computer screens, motors, fluorescent lights, microwave ovens, cell phones, electric blankets, household wiring, and hundreds of other electrical devices.

Exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) from human-made sources has steadily increased over the last 50-100 years. Most EMF exposure is due to the increasing use of electricity and new technologies. In recent decades, the potential negative effects of EMF exposure on human well-being have been an important research topic. In California, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) established the California Electric and Magnetic Fields Program to research the potential health effects of EMF exposure and to provide education and technical assistance.

In the California EMF report published in 2002, the three scientists concluded, among other things, that "all three DHS scientists are inclined to believe to some degree that EMF may cause an increased risk of childhood leukemia, adult brain tumors, Lou Gehrig's disease, and miscarriages," and noted that values below 3 mG are safe.

Low EMF

Our patent-pending infrared heating technology reduces EMF levels to virtually zero where you sit in the sauna. Our exclusive manufacturing process allows us to reduce EMF to levels that are virtually undetectable.

Using highly sensitive EMF testing equipment, all our heaters are tested to ensure safe EMF levels. Electromagnetic fields are measured in milligauss (mG). It is generally accepted that EMF exposure should not exceed 3 milligauss. The EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) has proposed a safety standard of 3 mG. Sweden has also set a recommended safety limit of 3 mG. When EMF levels are measured inside your Clearlight® sauna around your seating position, the EMF levels are practically undetectable.

Please see the tests below, conducted by the EMF testing laboratory VitaTech Electromagnetics. These EMF values are measured directly at the heater. Where you sit in the sauna, the values are practically zero.

Low ELF

Extremely low-frequency radiation (ELF) is at the low-energy end of the electromagnetic spectrum and is also referred to as "electric fields." The most common ELF field is emitted by power lines. You are exposed to these fields whenever you are near electrical devices of any kind.

The effect of electric field strength on a person's body is defined as body voltage strength and is expressed in millivolts (mV). In nature, far from electrical sources, the natural body voltage of humans is 0 mV. It has been shown that an increase in this body voltage can lead to sleep disturbances, irritation, and other discomfort in sensitive individuals.

The threshold for ELF is 1,000 mV. When testing our competitors' saunas, their ELF levels are above 20,000 mV - twenty times above the limit. Individual values vary, as some people are more conductive due to their body composition (e.g., higher salt content). In our tests, no one in a shielded Clearlight® infrared sauna exceeded the limit.

Clearlight® infrared saunas are one of the few infrared saunas where the electrical wiring runs through metal conduits. This shields both ELF and EMF to ensure that your sauna is the safest on the market. In addition to routing the cables through metal conduits, we twist the cables to reduce ELF and EMF even further.

Clearlight® infrared saunas are the only infrared saunas that emit virtually no EMF and no ELF.

Feel free to ask any of our competitors about the EMF and ELF emissions of their heaters. You will be shocked at how high the values are in their saunas, or they may not even know! Below are some examples of tests in our competitors' saunas:

EMF measured directly at the heater

Clearlight® Infrared Saunas < 3mG

Commercial Carbon Heater 70 mG – 100mG

Commercial Ceramic Heater 20 mG – 40mG

Are EMF and ELF harmful to the human body?

Numerous studies have yielded conflicting results, yet some experts are convinced that the danger is real.

Dr. David Carpenter, Dean at the School of Public Health at the State University of New York, believes it is likely that up to 30% of all childhood cancers are due to EMF exposure. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) warns: "There is reason for concern" and advises cautious avoidance.

Martin Halper, the director of analysis and support at the EPA, says, "I've never seen a set of epidemiological studies that even remotely have the weight of evidence we see with EMF. There's clearly something to it." Concern over EMF exploded after Paul Brodeur wrote a series of articles in the New Yorker Magazine in June 1989. Due to his excellent reputation, his articles had a catalytic effect on scientists, reporters, and concerned people worldwide.

In November 1989, the Department of Energy reported: "It is now generally accepted that there are indeed biological effects due to field exposure." The EMF problem gained more attention in 1990 when alarming reports appeared in Time, Wall Street Journal, Business Week, and popular computer magazines. ABC and CBS both broadcast special programs on the topic of EMF.

Some health effects associated with EMF include:
• Memory loss
• Depression
• Loss of energy
• Irritability
• Inability to concentrate
• Weakened immune system
• Chronic fatigue
• Headaches
